Stalatube takes part in Lahti's regional Environment Week

This week, Stalatube participates in our hometown Lahti’s regional Environmental Week. During the week we will post news and updates about some of our environmental matters, and today our focus is on waste management.

We are committed to following the European Union’s waste legislation, and our primary goal is to prevent and minimize waste. During the past 5 years we have managed to decrease the amount of waste generated by 45 %. When prevention is not possible, our waste is prepared for re-use, and, as a third option, recycled appropriately. We re-use and recycle waste under 9 different categories and for instance metals alone are collected in 11 different containers. In the span of 5 years, our landfill waste has decreased by 26 %.

Waste management is a continuous effort – we aim to further increase waste prevention and decrease the amount of waste disposed. What kind of means have we used so far to get to where we are now? We’ve for instance decreased the number of different chemicals used in production, mapped our plant to be better informed of where waste is generated, increased the amount of re-use and recycling categories, optimized the location of waste containers and educated our employees. Our employees are also encouraged to participate by creating ideas and suggesting improvements. Stalatube is a member of Cleantech Finland network and we are certified to ISO 14001:2015, the most recent certificate having been granted just this fall.
