Stainless steel is an ecological, strong and corrosion resistant material that offers many advantages as the construction material in the heavy machinery and demanding processes needed in pulp and paper industry facilities.

Pulp and paper industry

Due to climate change there is a growing need to replace plastic packaging and unsustainable building materials with more sustainable options. In comes the renewable natural resource our Northern forests are filled with – wood. Besides the traditional pulp and paper products, the industry constantly develops new and innovative paperboard and other cellulose-based products.

The pulp and paper industry uses large amounts of water and other liquids in its processes – making high corrosion resistance a key feature for production structures and machinery. The heavy materials handled in the production set set their own standards – the materials used in operations structures must be strong and durable.

Using stainless steel hollow sections, profiles and components in the pulp and paper machinery and production lines is a choice that extends the operational life cycle of the structures and brings down their maintenance needs and costs.

Stainless steel grades such as EN 1.4162 (LDX 2101) are excellent performers for when high strength, durability, good corrosion resistance and low maintenance needs are needed. Using stainless steel in industrial structures is also ecologically sustainable as the material has a long operational lifetime and is fully recyclable.
